ROOT CANAL THERAPY IN FALLS CHURCH
No matter how good you take care of your teeth, decay can still occur. Sometimes it goes unnoticed to the point that the tooth faces an abscess. If you are experiencing pain, the best option is to come in and have Dr. Jones access the problem. If you catch it early enough, we can often save your tooth with a root canal.
A root canal is an essential step that we take to help you preserve a tooth that is badly infected or traumatized. In many cases, it is one of the last options available before having to have the tooth pulled.
Dr. Jones may suggest a root canal if your tooth is impacted by:
- Large, deep cavities
- Evidence that the nerve is dying
- History of trauma to the tooth
- A dental abscess
- Severe pain or hypersensitivity
WHAT EXACTLY IS A ROOT CANAL?
A root canal is a restoration that extends through the center of the tooth and into the nerve chamber, to the tip of the root. After infected tissues are removed, the chamber is medicated and then completely sealed off with a filling material.
WILL IT HURT?
An endodontic procedure does not have to hurt. Dr. Jones will thoroughly numb the entire area around the tooth, so that you do not experience any discomfort. We also have noise canceling headphones and a television mounted directly above the chair to keep you distracted. If you still feel a bit anxious, then be sure to ask us about our anti-anxiety option!
In fact, children’s pediatric dentistry is also a specialty offered here.
